It’s all over the internet that debt consolidation will affect your credit score. Well, it can certainly hurt your credit report if you don’t make payments, but debt consolidation in itself can actually work to your advantage.

Why all the fuss about credit reports to begin with? Well, a credit report basically sums up your attitude as a creditor. A high credit score has all lenders coming to your rescue should you need to apply for a loan, but the same cannot be said if you have a low credit score. Job opportunities will be scarce, and taking out any kind of loan will prove to be difficult.

With debt consolidation, you get to pay off all your unsecured credit card debts, regardless of the amount of your debts and the number of your creditors. This for sure will have a positive influence on your total credit score.

To begin this debt management process, you only need to approach a reliable consolidating company and present your case. Be ready with a list of your debts, the credit card companies you maintain accounts with, and the like. The consolidating company will want to see these things as basis for evaluation. Based on what you present, the company will first try to negotiate with your creditors to lower the interest rates. If they are able to come to an agreement, the company will grant you a loan in the amount that is sufficient enough to pay your debts. You will only have to deal with just one major account, then, in this case, the consolidating company.

Apparently, you must not take this for granted. Keep in mind that you have already been given the chance to settle your debts through debt negotiation or debt consolidation loans and you must not abuse it. Always make your payments with the company up to date because any delays on your account can bring your credit score down. A one month delay may not cause a huge impact, but no payments for four months can surely make a lot of difference on your credit standing.

Halifax has launched the Halifax Clarity card, which aims to cut the cost of travel money for holidaymakers.

The card comes with no foreign exchange fees on transactions including all purchases and cash withdrawals abroad.

According to the lender, over 30 million Britons still change sterling for their currency of destination in advance of travelling, with over half believing this to be the most convenient form of payment on holiday, and almost 40% believing it to be the most secure.

However, spending on debit and credit cards whilst abroad is on the rise with consumers appreciating the benefits, such as the ability to access funds to cover unexpected expenses.

Halifax Credit Cards spokesman, Mark Powys, comments: “Our research shows that three quarters of holidaymakers would be more likely to use a credit card abroad if they knew they wouldn’t incur any fees.”

He adds: “The Halifax Clarity card is the best value option for customers planning their holiday budget, and with no cash fees and a single low rate however you use the card it’s a winner at home too.”

The new offering comes with a rate of 12.9% APR for all transactions including cash withdrawals and offers £5 monthly cashback for qualifying current account customers, when they spend £300 or more on the card in each statement period.

The U.K.’s accounting watchdog is investigating Ernst & Young over its role as auditor to Lehman Brothers in the months leading up to the investment bank’s collapse.

In a statement, the Accountancy & Actuarial Discipline Board said it’s probing the firm’s conduct in relation to the preparation and audit of Lehman’s accounts for the fiscal year ended Nov. 30, 2007. It’s also reviewing the accounting treatment of transactions known as “repo 105″ and “repo 108.”

Lehman used these transactions to temporarily lower its apparent leverage and remove as much as $50 billion from its balance sheet, according to a report by a court-appointed examiner earlier this year. See story on how repo 105 worked.

The same report by Anton Valukas said there was evidence to support a possible professional malpractice claim against Ernst & Young and that claims might also be possible against some of Lehman’s competitors, including J.P. Morgan /quotes/comstock/13*!jpm/quotes/nls/jpm (JPM 38.48, +0.23, +0.60%) and Citigroup /quotes/comstock/13*!c/quotes/nls/c (C 3.97, -0.02, -0.50%) over collateral demands they made as Lehman began to fall apart. See story on potential Lehman lawsuits.

“Ernst & Young’s audit opinion stated that Lehman’s financial statements for that year were fairly presented in accordance with the relevant accounting standards, and we remain of that view,” the audit firm said in a statement.

It added that it will cooperate fully with the investigation.

The announcement came as The Wall Street Journal reported that European creditors of the collapsed investment bank could get paid early.

The newspaper said administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers plan to unveil a proposal that would speed up the return of up to $22 billion of assets to unsecured creditors of Lehman.

The plan would see the majority of such claims approved by the end of the year, with cash to be distributed in 2011, making the outcome years speedier that a traditional approach, the report said.

It added that details of the plan are likely to be announced later Wednesday, but that it would only be implemented if an “overwhelming majority” of the 6,500 creditors of the European business agree to it.

After eight years of socialist power, marked by economic crisis and corruption, the right of former Prime Minister Viktor Orban managed 263 of the 386 seats in Parliament, or five more than the two thirds majority is 258, according to figures published Sunday by the National Electoral Office (OVI) once counted 95% of the vote in the runoff.

In the first round on 11 April, and got Fidesz absolute majority of votes, with 52.73%.

The historic result on Sunday, never reached in Hungary in democratic elections, the country become the only former communist Europe be governed by a single party capable of carrying out constitutional reforms alone announced.

During the campaign, Orban said he wanted to amend the laws on the press to “streamline” this sector, a project strongly criticized by other parties which she considered “a threat to press freedom.” He also wants to reduce the number of councilors who bleeds public budgets and restrict stringently the deputies.

Furthermore, the future government could amend the law on dual citizenship so they can benefit from it”s more than three million Hungarians from neighboring countries, although in Ukraine, for example, you can not have it.

These laws are also marked by the historic entrance to the Parliament of the extreme Jobbik party”s right, after a campaign focused on anti-Semitism, to stigmatize the Roma and in opposition to the European Union.

The Jobbik, with 47 deputies, emerges as the third political force, just behind the socialist MSZP, which scratched just 59 seats. In the first round, collapsed with the MSZP 19.30% of the voteddd(against 43.21% in 2006).

A fourth party, the PML of the environmentalist left, Founded in 2009, will be represented with 16 seats.

The participation rate in the second round was much lower (44.17%) in the first round (64.29%). Many voters felt, analysts said that the game was decided in advance with the absolute majority was right two weeks ago.

But in terms of economic and social reforms, the margin maneuvering of the new right-wing government will be limited by the conditions imposed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the EU in exchange for a ransom of 20,000 million euros to the country to avoid bankruptcy in 2008.

Viktor Orban will cost to fulfill the promises of tax cuts and to create a million jobs.

The poll by ALCO for the Sunday newspaper Proto Thema showed that 37.3 percent of respondents believed the government moved slowly to address the debt crisis, which has rattled the euro, while 28.2 percent said the government took steps wrong.

According to the survey, done at national level between 21 and 23 April to a sample 1,000 people, only 23.1 percent passed the government”s measures to manage the economy during the crisis, indicating a decrease in confidence.

The survey also showed that 65, two percent thought that the Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou, deceived people about the true state of the economy. In contrast, 26.1 percent thought Papandreou, elected last October, was unaware of the extent of the problems of the country.

Public Issue Another poll last week showed that only 47 percent of Greeks Papandreou hoped to manage the economy, compared to 55 percent in February.

loan costs to prohibitive levels climbed Greece after that, following October elections, the country which last year unveiled its budget deficit was 12.7 percent of its annual economic output, resulting in a reduction in rank credit.

The statistical office of the EU last week revised deficit of 2009, 13.6 percent of GDP. Debt is projected to increase to Greek 120.4 percent of GDP this year.

Despite the fiscal disaster, the majority of Greeks said they will not get their money out of country or migrate if they get the chance.
